Doga - Yoga for You and Your Dog was founded by established adult, teen, and kids teachers in 2012. My first class was located in the heart of Hampstead. In the same year, my little Maltese rescue dog Robbie joined me to teach the first Doga class at Harrods Pet Spa. Our appearance on Made in Chelsea in 2013 gained us a book deal with Hamlyn/Hachette, titled "Doga - Yoga for You and Your Dog". I structured and reviewed translating the original eight-limb yoga practice of Patanjali into the eight-limb yoga practice suitable for hounds and humans.
I am Mahny Djahanguiri, a qualified kid and adult yoga teacher who has been teaching for 27 years. My studies of Doga were born through the work I experienced as a yoga therapist working for the largest UK Child Protection Agency. Doga came naturally to me when working with underprivileged street kids in south London. Abuse, neglect, and poverty can make a young person act in ways that are so primordial in order to survive the horror of famine and sexual, mental, and emotional neglect. In some ways, these kids act like dogs because it truly is a dog-eat-dog world out there for them.
The idea of teaching yoga to dogs was something that I had always wished to merge with these children. The protection of the innocent, mean, and vulnerable is the biggest priority here, whether it is bound or human. I went on to write the book Doga, in which I broke down the eight-fold path of yoga in order to translate the ethical code of conduct in Doga.
My book was reviewed in:
Robbie and I have shared Doga with thousands of viewers, appearing on:
However, my biggest impact was when we auditioned for Britain's Got Talent in 2017. Judges Simon Cowell, David Walliams, and Amanda Holden all joined in with their dogs for a spot in Doga. Today, Doga is back with a new angle, hoping to establish itself as the first pet yoga therapy.
